UC Robotics Team
The robotics team at the University of Cincinnati strives to create an environment in which students may explore there interests in the growing field of robotics. Notably, this a competition team that participates in the yearly unmanned ground vehicle challenge. However, in addition to this portion of the club, there are numerous other subdivisions that focus on different areas of robotics.
Fall 2014
For my first semester, I participated in the aerial division of the University of Cincinnati's Robotics Team, a new section for this year. Our projects during this first semester included: researching the function and operation of quadcopters, the design of our own quadcopter (parts were ordered and will simply require construction upon return in the spring), creation of our own unique challenge (since there are very few for aerial units), and the designing for a larger hexcopter that can meet our challenge. This section of the team is one of the smaller ones, although I have found that the other individuals who have chosen the aerial subdivision as well as myself seem to work together very well. We are very excited the upcoming semesters and seeing our designs come to life and take flight!
Spring 2015
Unfortunately due to academic scheduling and the co-op search process, I was not able to attend many robotics team meetings during my second semester; although I was able to keep up to date on team events via email and the team communication app. Therefore, exciting news from my second semester was that two members from the aerial division of the robotics team won executive positions within the larger club and that the aerial division is looking at pursuing a few new projects: the designing of a variable pitch copter, a potential competition event, and of course assembling our first quad copter whenever parts come in.
