Helping Hand Saturdays
On three occasions during the Spring 2017 semester I volunteered at a Helping Hand Saturday hosted by Imago. Imago is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide access to natural environments to the Cincinnati area. To achieve this mission, Imago manages 37 acres of land (known as its urban nature preserve) that is open to the public and hosts summer camps, seasonal rituals, and workshops centered on environmentalist topics. The Helping Hand Saturdays are an opportunity for individuals to help Imago reach its goals primarily by helping maintain the urban nature preserve. During my first and second volunteering events, I removed invasive honeysuckle and vines along the trails of Imago's 16 acre Earth Center located at 700 Enright Avenue in Cincinnati. In addition, I helped dig a trench for runoff water along one of the trails in order to reduce washout problems that had been occurring. I enjoyed these events as I was able to engage with a natural environment and was fully utilized during my volunteering time.
