About me
My name is Matt Stang, and I am a recent graduate from the University of Cincinnati (class of 2018). I graduated with a major in mechanical engineering and a minor in Management. I have always had a passion for math and science and enjoyed the opportunities that the University of Cincinnati provided me both through my courses and coop rotations. I am excited to begin applying the skills and competencies that I acquired throughout my education in industry as I begin my career as an engineer with Honda at their Marysville plant.
I was born at University Hospitals, Cleveland, Ohio on April 9th, 1996 and am an only child. I grew up in the town of Green, Ohio with my parents, Bob and Gail. I graduated from Green High School in the class of 2014 and always knew that Cincinnati was the best fit for my personality and career aspirations.
During my time at the University of Cincinnati, I participated in a wide range of volunteering activities from tutoring as a Bearcat Buddy to a number of community cleanup styled events. I completed five honors experiences, two of which were Honors Seminars focused on leadership and one which was a self-designed research project concerning examining the existing literature and designs of exosuit technology. My final two honors experiences were completed through my participation with the Engineering Diplomats, an organization that sought to improve functions surrounding the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences relationship with its partner university in Chongqing, China. These experiences were quite valuable in helping me develop a sense of how my minor strengths and passions fit into my larger goals.
During my coop experience, I completed four full-time coop rotations with Setco, a Cincinnati based company that specializes in the production and repair of highly engineered spindles and slides for the machine tool industry. I spent my first coop rotation at Setco’s headquarters in Cincinnati where I learned the basics of the industry as well as was exposed to a range of engineering tasks from detailing to reverse engineering damaged parts. For my second coop rotation I had the opportunity to travel to Setco’s Novi repair facility where I worked on improving Setco’s ISO documentation (primarily in the form of standard work instructions). In my third rotation I returned to Cincinnati and further developed my drafting abilities and understanding of Setco's products and standards. For my final coop rotation I worked in the application engineering department which focused on developing quotes for customer requested special products.
I am an outgoing individual who loves to get outside of my comfort zone to experience something new. I have a well developed system for time management that involves an agenda book, my calendar on my phone, and numerous to-do lists! My hobbies include playing the guitar, casual sports activities, spending time with my friends, and enjoying the outdoors. I am eager to continue giving back to the surrounding community when I get settled in Marysville, Ohio. I appreciate the experiences that I had at the University of Cincinnati and will seek to represent the university well as a proud alumni.
